Western Regional Police Command with support from the police intelligence unit have gunned down one of the suspects believed to be behind the robbery that led to the killing of a man who was with his wife at Amanful on Monday.
The robber now deceased, identified as Shankiki, 30, together with his accomplice were said to have engaged the police in a shootout in Elmina on the Cape Coast highway after the police attempted to arrest them.
They were on a blue motorbike with registration number M-20 GW 6060, eyewitnesses say.
The suspects in their bid to outsmart the police used a sticker to cover one of the numbers on the motorbike.
Suspected armed robbers Monday afternoon shot a man and his wife after they withdrew the money from a bank at Amanful in Takoradi.
The robbers were said to be on a motorbike trailing the couple from the bank and shot them twice before bolting with an undisclosed amount of money.
This is the third robbery attack to hit the Sekondi -Takoradi metropolis within the last four (4) days.
Most of the people who trooped to the crime scene were heard expressing fear over recent robbery attacks in the area.
According to reports, the victims were taken by one of the taxi drivers at the Anaji taxi station to the Takoradi hospital to receive treatment but the husband died from the gunshot wounds.
